streetlight tucson
- will be providing a long-term residential safe home in southern Arizona where victims of child sex slavery can heal physically, emotionally and spiritually, continue their education, learn valuable life skills, and move toward fulfilling their God-given potential.
Today, in the United States, there is an astonishingly small number of less than 100 beds that are available compared to the 100,000+ children who have been lured or kidnapped into sex slavery. National leaders who have addressed the issue of sex trafficking can all unanimously agree that safe homes are essential in helping victims of child sex slavery, however there continues to be limited federal funding in this area. When the Streetlight home initially opened in Phoenix in April of 2011, 30-40 additional beds were added. Since the start of its operation, they continued to see a great need in providing protection and restoration for trafficking survivors and decided to open another home called Streetlight Tucson.
Overall, due to the limited number of safe houses that currently operate in the United States, it is difficult to find financial information on shelters. However, from careful researching and reviewing reports and articles of various shelters that are planning to open in the United States such as Streetlight Tucson, I was able to find that most safe homes initially rely largely on private donations and grants. It is said that the average cost for safe homes in the United States for sex trafficking victims is $50,000 per year per girl. In the case of Streetlight Tucson, I was able to readily access information on the funding they hope to receive to build their safe home. Streetlight is counting on thousands of individuals, churches, and organizations to make regular monthly donations so they can budget for the fiscal year. They are also counting on one-time donations in order to meet special needs and certain required purchases that will come up throughout the year. Streetlight Tucson will try to utilize many volunteer healthcare, professionals, mentors, security guards, and property maintenance workers to be able to maintain and meet the needs of the shelter. Due to the depth of trauma and the extensive range of care that is required for trafficking survivors, it is inevitably going to be a costly project.
At Streetlight Tucson, all their received funds will go towards:
